Twitter Paid Verification
Twitter plans to introduce a new feature that will be much more expensive than the Twitter Blue subscription that gives access to additional features. Reuters reported that Elon Musk started to give orders to its employees for a paid verification that will be included in the subscription, which will now cost $19.99. Currently, Twitter Blue subscribers were given 90 days to subscribe for they not lose this blue checkmark.
This was part of Elon Musk plans when he acquired the application as he wanted to rebuild the old process of Twitter's verification and how the app handles the bots. He tweeted on Sunday, "The whole verification process is being revamped right now."
No confirmation was given regarding the $20 charge that was reportedly first by Platformer. Musk did not also gave a statement if this decision is final or will be scrapped.
Deadline for this Feature
Aside from this, Musk also gave an ultimatum to his employees regarding this feature. The ones who are assigned to this project were given a deadline until November 7th and will be fired if this did not finish before the launching date.
Despite being the new owner of Twitter just days after the announcement, The Verge reported that Musk has been very quick regarding what he wants to change within the application. He also plans to update the homepage for logged-out users and plans to do mass layoffs, focusing on managers and engineers who were part of the team for the code base. These are expected to start this week.
As per the report, employees have been working late into the night since Musk acquired the company.
Future of Twitter Blue
Twitter Blue was recently launched last year in June. Aside from the upcoming paid verification and the current exclusive features, this also includes an option to edit tweets which was launched earlier this month after Musk set up a poll last April. He asked his followers if they wanted an edit button which resulted in over 70% saying yes.
Musk plans for the subscription service to become half of the company's overall revenue as the majority of it is from advertising, based on the past reported earnings of the past quarters.
