Fitbit just released the latest 3.68 version on Android. This time, Google adds Health Connect support on the platform which is currently available on the Play Store.
This feature lets the users choose what data can be used from their smartphone. The Health Connect service can utilize your health and fitness data in just a single click between different mobile apps.
Fitbit Health Connect
Before Health Connect arrived at Google Fitbit, it first hit Samsung. The newest Android update reveals that it's now officially available on the Play Store.
Android Central notes that you won't be able to see any major changes in the app at the moment, yet you can already enable the Health Connect support from your smartphone.
If you happen to explore the Permissions and Data section for the feature, the Fitbit feature will appear inaccessible at the time. The "Not allowed access" will pop up in the app section. However, there's a way to activate it easily.
How to Enable Health Connect on Android
9to5Google says that instead of accessing Health Connect on the Quick Settings section, you can actually observe that it's usable on the Android platform.
To do this, head to the App permissions. By this time, Fitbit will be under the "Not allowed access" display. Then, all you have to do is to "allow all" so you can use some data from the various health apps that you use.
For instance, the feature can give you insights into your Total calories burned, heart rate, sleep pattern, walking speed, and more.
"The data in Health Connect is all on-device and encrypted. Users will have the ability to shut off access or delete data they don't want on their device, and the option to prioritize one data source over another when using multiple apps," Google said about the Health Connect API.
Fitbit Data Handling
In a similar report from 9to5Google, Android users can disable and remove their data linked to Health Connect whenever they want.
Apparently, the updates for the Fitbit version 3.69 are expected to arrive soon. The bottom bar on the app is not yet accessible on both iOS and Android platforms.
Earlier this week, the Health Connect version 0.1.1153.480892628.0-open_beta became available. The update brings a "Recent access" timeline for some users.
Back in August, Fitbit announced that it would no longer use Fitbit Connect app this month. The said feature is useful in syncing devices to PC and Mac.
This means that you won't be able anymore to transfer health data from your handheld to a computer. Having said that, the desktop won't serve as storage anymore, as well.
Google said that the Fitbit Connect app saw a huge decline in the number of monthly users. Because of the inactivity, the company decided to ditch it to make room for the newer updates.
