Apple Kills Apple TV HD (2015): No Longer Sold in Online Stores

As per the latest news story by Engadget, the Apple TV HD is nowhere to be found in online stores of Apple. However, it remains to be seen if the streaming device would still be available in its retail store. It is also unclear if the other online retailers will continue to offer the discontinued micro-console.

All that said, it is only clear that Apple has removed its 2015 streaming box from its online store.

Engadget notes in its report that the Apple TV HD first saw the light of day roughly seven years ago or in 2015, to be more exact. And it retailed for $149 since then despite the introduction of a new streaming box that already supports up to a stunning 4K resolution.

It is worth noting that the newer 4K option only sells for around $30 more expensive than the 2015 release, which only offers up to 1080p of streaming.

According to a recent report by Apple Insider, the 2015 streaming device was somewhat of an innovative product when it first saw the shimmer of the spotlight several years ago. It debuted the first-ever Siri Remote. Not to mention that it was the first-ever to offer the tvOS of the Cupertino-based tech giant.

Will Current Owners Be Affected?

A news story by 9to5 Mac assures that the iPhone maker is not completely abandoning the current Apple TV HD users. Instead, the tech juggernaut will still roll out timely software updates to the streaming box.

However, given that Apple no longer sells it and has officially discontinued it, the updates might stop any time soon.

New Apple TV 4K: What to Expect and How Much is it Priced

Engadget reports that the all-new Apple TV 4K now only sells to the tune of $129. But there's a catch with this cheaper pricing.

First off, it only comes with up to 64GB of storage. If you stream most of your favorite shows and movies through streaming services, this would not be an issue though.

However, it should be noted that the entry-level offering also ditches support for Ethernet and Thread. But if you are looking for these ports, you can still opt to buy the $149 variant, which comes with 128 GB.
