SpaceX Starlink Aviation to Arrive—Promising Over 350Mbps to Each Airplane

The new Starlink Aviation is fast enough for gaming and other online activities.

SpaceX's Starlink Aviation service is confirmed to arrive. The independent space company promises that there will be over 350Mbps for each airplane using the new internet tier.

If this is true, the new Starlink Aviation service will offer faster and more efficient internet connection than other in-flight broadband service providers.

As of writing, some airplanes still rely on air-to-ground systems, which only offer more than 10Mbps.

On the other hand, satellite systems are also used by other aircraft.

However, they can only provide between 30Mbps to 100Mbps.

If ever SpaceX can keep its promise, airline companies will have a new option to improve their passengers' experiences.

According to The Verge's latest report, the new Starlink Aviation service is expected to arrive as early as 2023.

Aside from offering fast internet connection in-flight, SpaceX said that passengers can take advantage of the new Starlink Aviation from taxi takeoff until flight takeoff.

It can offer around 350Mbps of internet connection on flights over land and water.

"With Starlink, passengers will be able to access high-speed, low-latency internet from the moment they walk on their plane," said SpaceX via its official Twitter account.

Elon Musk already shared his plans to offer Starlink to airplanes way back in 2021. Now, it seems like it will become a reality.

Starlink Aviation's Details

Via the official Starlink Support page, SpaceX said that Starlink Aviation would be available globally once it launches.

The aerospace firm added that it would include the advanced Aero Terminal, which is fast enough to accommodate online gaming, video calls, and other online activities that require high data.

As of writing, SpaceX said that STCs (supplemental type certificates) are still in development for ERJ-135, ERJ-145, G650, G550, Falcon 2000, G450, Challenger 300, Challenger 350, Global Express, Global 5000, Global 6000, and Global 7500 aircraft models.

In other stories, SpaceX's 2.4GHz spectrum access request for Starlink was criticized by Globalstar.

Meanwhile, the SpaceX Starlink expansion in Antarctica finally began.
