Players of the 2021 survival horror game Resident Evil 8 have recently reported a bug in which they may not be able to load the game and risk having their save files corrupted. Although developers are aware of the problem, reports indicate that it has been occurring for some time.
A Scary Bug
According to a TechRadar report, affected players observed a black screen popping up suddenly along with an error message that states that their data is "incompatible." The same report mentions that restarting the game would result in players being locked out of their respective save files.
This bug would be a total debacle if you were trying to play Resident Evil Village. But don't worry, developer Capcom has already acknowledged the problem and assured its player base that a fix would be available soon. Check out Resident Evil's official tweet about the matter below:
It is unclear when developers will implement the necessary fix, but rest assured that you will meet Lady Dimitrescu soon. While the bug has yet to be amended, a Steam user was able to pinpoint the source of the issue and elaborated on the lingering Resident Evil bug.
This is not the first time the game has been plagued by serious bugs. According to the same report from TechRadar, Capcom's Resident Evil 4 port wreaked havoc on unwary PC players back in 2007 when the developers ported the lesser Playstation 2 version rather than the superior Nintendo GameCube build.
A Closer Look
This previously unexplained bug that causes Resident Evil 8 games to crash, with their save files being corrupted and locked to oblivion, could be the result of a recently added DLC. This was first noted by a Steam user, who stated in a Steam forum post that the issues may have stemmed from an "anti-tamper code" implemented by Capcom in a recent patch.
The said patch code, according to the Steam user known as FluffyQuack, was initially installed to prevent the game from being modified by unauthorized third parties, but the said security addition has recently malfunctioned, causing sudden game blackouts for some players of Resident Evil.
The user even shared with the public potential fixes that he suggests players try. The concerned Resident Evil 8 player suggested that others try downloading the game via a link he provided in the forum post, as well as follow other instructions detailed in the Steam forum post.
Common Issues and Fixes
Resident Evil Village may be riddled with frightening entities and plotlines, but in-game bugs may be more concerning at times. Players have already reported a number of issues, such as crashes and sound bugs since the horror action-adventure game was first released in 2021.
According to an ITech report, some underlying issues may be caused by devices running low on storage, so players should check the minimum requirements before running Resident Evil 8. Another easy way to fix common issues is to update drivers and check Steam settings on system resource utilization.
