"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" mobile phone number requirement for PC players does not apply to PlayStation console gamers, including PS4 and PS5.
The "Modern Warface" game developer has explained that the SMS requirement for its upcoming shooter game only applies to PC users.
'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' Phone Number Requirement
To put it in context, Activision has required players of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" to verify their mobile phone numbers to play the first-shooter adventure.
As per the latest news story by Game Spot, the upcoming shooter title is seeingthe light of day before October ends. And before its official launch, potential players were surprised to learn that they would be required to provide their mobile numbers.
To be more precise, Battle.net states that players of "Modern Warfare 2" will have to give their phone numbers. But that's not all. To play the game, they need to connect a contact number that has a working data plan.
And as such, it turns out that prepaid and VOIP mobile users could not use their numbers for the SMS requirement. So if you are looking to play the game on Battle.net, you will have to provide a number attached to a data plan.

'Modern Warfare 2' SMS Rule Does NOT Apply to PlayStation Gamers
But this time, it looks like PlayStation gamers should not worry about the phone number rule.
It is worth mentioning that some console gamers were anticipating that the mobile number requirement also affects them. However, contrary to early speculations, the developers of the game explained otherwise.
According to a recent report by Push Square, the game developer of "Modern Warfare 2," Infinity Ward, has clarified that the new phone number requirement only serves PC players.
Infinity Ward says "the SMS policy for 'Modern Warfare II' and 'Warzone 2.0' on Battle.net is the same as the requirement for 'Call of Duty: Warzone' on PC."
On top of that, the game developer also notes that "a mobile phone number must be linked to your Steam Account to play 'Modern Warfare II' on that platform."
Now that none other than the developer behind the upcoming shooter game has spoken, PlayStation gamers could now rest their worries. But PC gamers would still be required to give away their phone number if they want to enjoy the game.
