Microsoft is updating its Surface product line, and its new variants will be launching in certain markets starting Oct. 25. These will also be available in more areas over the following months.
Launch Event at New York
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, Microsoft celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Surface tablet by revealing three new Surface computers.
At the launch event in New York, Microsoft debuted the Surface Pro 9 convertible tablet, the Surface Laptop 5, and the Surface Studio 2+ all-in-one personal computer. The Windows 11 operating system (OS), released by Microsoft late last year, is pre-installed on each of the three.
Surface Pro 9
Microsoft's Surface Pro 9 is a hybrid device that combines laptop and tablet elements. Intel's 12th-generation processor powers it and now offers 5G connectivity as an optional extra. The processors of the 12th generation are expected to be a great deal more powerful than those of the 11th generation, which were used to power the Pro 8.
The display on the Surface Pro 9 is 13 inches in size and runs at a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is unfortunate that the 5G Pro 9 model does not come equipped with a Thunderbolt connector for the possibility of uploading video files more quickly.
The Surface Pro 9, based on an Intel chip, has a battery life of up to 15.5 hours at its maximum.
Depending on the storage space, the cost might range anywhere from $1,000 to $1,900.
Surface Laptop 5
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 has Intel Core CPUs from the 12th generation. Both the 13.5-inch and 15-inch variants include touchscreen displays.
According to Microsoft, it boasts a battery life of 17 hours and a new and improved camera for face-to-face calls. It is the first Surface laptop to include a Thunderbolt 4 port. The port charges the device, provides a rapid data transfer for huge video files and connects the laptop to a monitor that can display 4K resolution.
The picture quality of movies and TV shows streamed on the Laptop 5 is enhanced with Dolby Vision IQ, and the audio quality is enhanced with Dolby Atmos.
Prices for the Surface Laptop 5 range from $1,000 to $2,400.
Surface Studio 2+
Microsoft will replace the 2018 Surface Studio 2 with the Surface Studio 2+, an all-in-one desktop computer. The latest touchscreen device measures 28 inches and sits on a zero-gravity hinge that allows the display to be raised and lowered. It utilizes a processor of the 11th-generation Intel Core H-35.
XDA Developers' report shows it has a Core i7-11370H, which is a quad-core 35W CPU. It also contains an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, a substantial boost from the GTX 1070.
Users can divide the screen into four different program windows at the same time. It comes equipped with both a Thunderbolt port and a USB-C port.
Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos contribute to an improved streaming viewing experience.
The Surface Studio 2+ has a base price of $4,300, which is an increase of nearly 22% from the price of its predecessor in 2018, which is $3,500.
