Apple Watch Detects Woman's First Sign of Pregnancy, Thanks to its Heart Rate Monitor

If you are looking for a companion health device, Apple Watch seems like a great option!

An Apple Watch was reportedly responsible for detecting a woman's pregnancy even before she knew it.

A 34-year-old lady posted on Reddit, claiming that an Apple watch showed her typical resting heart rate had dramatically increased in the span of just a few days. Eventually, this led her to assume that something was amiss.

"Usually, my resting heart rate is about 57 and my heart rate has increased to 72. It's not a big jump, but it showed up on an alert that it's been higher for 15 days. I started trying to figure out why," said her statement on Reddit.

She added that if she were not wearing the watch, she would never try a pregnancy test as her period was not even delayed.

Apple Watch Series 8 and its Health-Tracking Features

Although the exact model of the watch was not disclosed, it could be the one that was most recently unveiled in India.

Last month, Apple Watch Series 8 was launched alongside Apple Watch SE, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to the official Apple Newsroom, the Apple Watch Series 8 improves on top-tier health and safety features in addition to the watch's existing health-related features.

CBS News reported that an Apple Watch 8 is equipped with a variety of health-tracking capabilities, such as an optical heart sensor, an electrical heart sensor for ECG, a blood oxygen sensor, and a new body temperature sensor.

The temperature sensor is promoted as a tool for women's health that can more precisely monitor ovulation timings and other changes that occur throughout the course of a woman's monthly cycle.

However, based on the previous reports, the feature will not provide users with a particular reading, and it will still not compare to a forehead or wrist thermometer. Yet, it shall suggest users go to a doctor or use a specialist thermometer to double-check their findings.

To be clear, Apple referred to the feature as a "wrist temperature sensor" or a basic "temperature sensor."

Apple has reassured its customers that the data they share with the company is both safe and encrypted in light of the growing number of privacy concerns surrounding information related to cycle monitoring.

More Features

As the most recent addition to Apple's range of wristwatches, the Series 8 incorporates the brand-new S8 processor, resulting in increased performance. It comes with an always-on display, as well as additional watch face designs.

In low-power mode, the Apple Watch 8's battery life may be extended to a maximum of 36 hours, which significantly improves over prior models' 24-hour maximum.

The Apple Watch 8 has a design that is resistant to cracking, dust, and water, and it also has a dust-proof and swim-proof construction.

The regular GPS-only model can be purchased for $399, while a version with GPS and cellular configuration costs $499.
