The Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to come with a temperature sensor as an added health feature for users. The feature has been puzzling for some, but finally, an explanation has been provided regarding its uses.
Apple Watch Comes with Temperature Sensor Feature
According to the story by Digital Trends, they had high expectations from the company when they mentioned that there will be a temperature sensor included in the upcoming Apple Watch. They had reportedly noted that having this feature would help monitor general health as well as detect early signs of infection should they happen.
The article then noted that there is a big reason why medical professionals decide to take a person's temperature through their ear, mouth, or other parts of the body that are reportedly less comfortable.
Taking One's Body Temperature can be Difficult
The reason is that being able to get a person's temperature through other places would allow them to get a good reading of the core body temperature in general. An article by Insider also tackles the most accurate locations to take a person's temperature.
With the Apple Watch being worn on a person's wrist, the article notes that it could have a high possibility to help detect whenever the one wearing the device has a fever and alert them.
Apple Referred to the Feature as a 'Wrist Temperature Sensor' and Not a 'Body Temperature Sensor'
Digital Trends, however, notes that there is "simply no way to get an objectively accurate temperature reading" via a bodily extremity which is why Apple decided not to use the term "body" temperature sensor.
As seen in the documentation by Apple, the feature is referred to as a "wrist temperature sensor" or a basic "temperature sensor" with no specific mention of being a body temperature sensor.
Temperature Sensors were Located in Two Different Parts of the Wearable
In order to bring this feature to life, the wearable employs two different temperature sensors, one of them located at the back of the Apple Watch and the other one located just under the device's display.
The article notes that Apple is only allowing the temperature feature to be used for two specific health monitoring areas. It was also specified that there will be no third-party developers will be allowed to have access to the feature.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Temperature Sensor and How It Differs
The new feature was referred to as an "interesting contrast" to another type of wearable with the temperature sensor, the Galaxy Watch 5 by Samsung. Samsung's Galaxy Watch 5's temperature sensor was tackled in an article by 9to5Google with the title "does Samsung's temperature sensor do anything?"
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 decided to introduce a body temperature sensor, but according to Digital Trends, it has yet to do anything with the feature. The difference, however, is that Samsung is promising that it will be working with developers in order for third-party solutions to be built around the feature.
