The next virtual-reality headset from Meta might boast a more powerful chip compared to the Quest 2's chipset.
An early finding revealed that the rumored Quest 3 wearable can also surpass Pico 4 Standalone mixed-reality headset when it comes to GPU performance.
Data Miner Unveils How Powerful is Meta Quest 3
In an early report by UploadVR, YouTuber SadlyItsBradley or most commonly known as Brad Lynch has teased some of the features of the upcoming Quest 3 headset.
The content creator claimed that someone familiar with Meta's plans about the next VR headset has told him about the powerful XR2 Gen 2 GPU from Qualcomm.
With the "multi-year broad strategic agreement" that was recently established between Meta and Qualcomm, it's understandable that the chipmaker will give its best quality chipset to Meta soon.
According to the YouTuber who focuses on VR-related content on his channel, the current Quest 2 headset is equipped with the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 chip.
The said computer hardware is said to be using Adreno 650 GPU. It is also capable of delivering 1.2 teraflops performance which is twice the capability of the Adreno 540. This is the same chipset that is equipped with the first edition of Oculus Quest.
With Qualcomm tweaking the name for the newest chipset in the market, it is expected that the trend will continue. The gen-2 chipset could be one of the highlights of the Snapdragon Summit which is scheduled to kick off on Nov. 15 to 17.

Quest 3 is Going to be a Beast VR Headset
While Quest 2 boasts a higher refresh rate display and improved graphics fidelity, it's not yet enough for some people. It used to be a powerhouse VR wearable but people keep on finding something that's better and more powerful.
According to Samulia, Meta is taking huge progress in elevating Quest 3's performance to a high level. The data miner notes that SXR2130P is the model number of the current XR2 Gen 1 chip. However, he later discovered some logs bearing SXR2230P with the codename "Project Halliday."
The model number appears to be foreign to the data miner. With that in mind, he assumes that the Quest 3 will utilize the XR2 Gen 2 chip in the future.
SadleyItsBradley said that "2x 4Kx4K" and "10XMONO" are existing in the logs. The first text could indicate 4K displays for two screens, while the latter means that ten cameras are expected to come for the next Meta headset.
The YouTuber noticed that there's also an A749 text which could mean that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will arrive along with the Adreno 740 GPU.
Apparently, some people are confused between the Quest 3 and the Quest Pro. Meta has not yet stated the release date of its mixed-reality headset. The latter is leaked to be launching on Oct. 11, per Digital Trends.
