An Apple Watch user reports that his smart wearable exploded while the device was strapped to his wrist.
The battery failure has gone unexpectedly wild that the Apple Watch owner was forced to visit the emergency room.
Apple Watch Overheats While on User's Wrist
As per the latest report by 9to5 Mac, an Apple Watch Series 7 owner narrates an incident wherein his smart wearable ended up exploding. It all began when it started overheating. Then everything became more alarming as it started emitting some white smoke.
The unnamed Apple Watch user told 9to5 Mac that he was wearing the smartwatch when it began to seemingly heat up excessively. And upon checking out its screen, a watchOS pop-up confirms that the device needs to be shut down due to high temperature.
The owner also observed that the rear of the smartwatch began to show some unusual cracks.
9to5 Mac notes in its report that the user says that the temperature inside their house when the overheating incident occurred was roughly 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
What is the Acceptable Temperature for Apple Watch?
It is worth noting that the recommended ambient temperature for most Apple Watch devices is between 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Apple support page.
On the other hand, the all-new Apple Watch Ultra could resist an ambient temperature of up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit while worn. It could also work even in colder environments of up to -4 degrees Fahrenheit.
Apple Watch Explodes
According to a recent report by Apple Insider, the user then reached out to Apple Support to tell them about the overheating and cracks on his wearable. They told him to avoid touching the smartwatch until they got in touch again.
But the owner had to touch it again when he tried to get rid of it the next day. When the user woke up the following day, he highlighted that the display had allegedly shattered. Not to mention that he says that it was still excessively heating up.
And as such, the owner decided to pick it up to throw it away through the window. But when he started to lift it, the smartwatch began to blurt out some "crackling noises," the user says.
While trying to throw it away, he stated that it exploded. He then visited the emergency room due to lead poisoning concerns after the battery blasted. However, 9to5 Mac notes that the Apple Watch contains a safe amount of lead.
