Nintendo Direct: 'The Super Mario Bros Movie;' What We Know So Far

The film will be released in the United States in 2023.

A new Nintendo Direct will air on Thursday, Oct. 6. Nintendo promises a stream focused on the world premiere trailer for the upcoming 'Super Mario Bros' movie at 1:05 p.m. PT. The first Nintendo Direct for October will be live-streamed on Nintendo's YouTube channel.

Nintendo of America first confirmed this in a tweet. As of this writing, the aforementioned tweet has received 25,000 retweets and 80,000 likes.

Chris Pratt Is Mario

The aforementioned Nintendo Direct will be the first in a long time to feature a movie release. It will also be many fans' first opportunity to see Illumination's newest animated movie starring Nintendo's most famous character, Mario.

Furthermore, this Direct will be our first chance to see actor Chris Pratt play the role of the iconic hyper-athletic plumber. Several unofficial teasers released earlier this month said that the "Jurrasic World" raptor trainer will be Mario.

According to CNET, fans are looking forward to hearing Pratt's take on Mario, especially since co-producer Chris Meledandri promised not to utilize the pronounced Italian accent made famous by Charles Martinet in the video games.

Mario Bros Movie: What We Know So Far

It is also worth noting that the previously stated tweet also includes the first-ever poster for the film, which features a really cool image of Mario himself in the middle of the Mushroom Kingdom with Peach's Castle looming in the background. Additionally, the environment is sprawling with tubes and vegetation reminiscent of video game series from the 1990s.

"Nintendo Direct: The Super Mario Bros Movie," according to Nintendo, will include the world premiere trailer for the upcoming film but with no game information. We know that the film will be released in the United States on April 7, 2023.

As reported by Eurogamer, Pratt has already revealed more about his role in the upcoming CGI Super Mario Bros. film, stating that his portrayal of the title character will be "updated and unlike anything you've heard in the Mario world before."

Reports also tell us that the "Super Mario Bros." movie also stars "The Queen's Gambit" lead Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, "Kung Fu Panda" star Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and Charlie Day as Luigi. Meanwhile, classic Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will have a series of cameos throughout amid Pratt's main role.

"Super Mario: The Movie" is being made by Nintendo and Illumination, as was first announced back in 2018. Shigeru Miyamoto, the man responsible for the character Mario, brought up the movie once more when he revealed the cast of the movie in the September 2021 Nintendo Direct.
