Sony is making an ambitious push to produce 2 million PlayStation VR2 headsets in 2023.
According to a person who knows the internal situation of the company, the console maker wants to increase the production of the virtual-reality goggles and create a "sales" momentum" for the next-gen wearable.
Sony to Improve PSVR2 Production Next Year
In a report by Bloomberg on Monday, Oct. 3, Sony has scheduled March 2023 to be the deadline for the production of VR2 headsets. The company aims to bypass the ongoing economic crisis by meeting its target number of units for the new product.
All in all, global tech firms have been plagued by continuous inflation, yet Sony wants to defy this obstacle. It should be noted that the Japanese corporation has started the mass production of PlayStation VR2 headsets last month, the anonymous person noted.
Additionally, the person said that Sony might have some time to tweak the production figure which will be dependent on the sales momentum in 2023.
Apparently, Sony could be looking at a different perspective of releasing its PSVR2 headset to compete with Meta's Oculus Quest 2 and other similar products from Apple and HTC.
Previously, the video game giant released PlayStation VR which suits the PS4 gameplay. However, Sony struggled to sell the units as it reportedly took eight months to hit a million-dollar sale.
On other hand, IDC stated that the Oculus Quest 2 has already completed over 2.8 million shipments in Q1 of its release.
As of writing, the company has not yet unveiled the price of the PlayStation VR2 goggles. Sony remains mum about the exact launch date of PSVR2.
For Sony to succeed in selling the mixed-reality headsets, it will need effective marketing machinery to get through that. As such, branding it for the PS5 console will be a difference maker for the company.
Last month, Tech Times reported that the Sony PSVR 2 has no backward compatibility with the old video game tiles.

Apple Will Release VR Headset With Similar Screen to PSVR2
According to Notebook Check, Apple is reportedly discussing matters with Samsung and LG about its upcoming VR headset. The report says that Sony will allegedly supply screens for the Apple wearables.
Apparently, Apple wants a more high-end AMOLED display for the future VR wearable. As such, it might ask for some help from notable screen suppliers to meet its demand.
If the Cupertino tech firm wants an edge when it comes to mixed-reality headsets, this is the only way that it can improve the specs of its product.
By that time, the 2800 PPI OLED display pixel density will be the main highlight of the Apple Glasses in 2023. If it all goes according to plan, the iPhone maker could gradually penetrate the VR market through this initiative.
