NASA and SpaceX are looking into a future mission that would bring a Crew Dragon towards the Hubble Space Telescope to "reboost" the spacecraft for further use in the future. It is known that the Hubble already served massive years for NASA and the world, bearing witness to many astronomical events which took place out there, the space telescope documenting it.
The Hubble also served as a sleuth on different regions in space, providing astronomers a look at the many occurrences and happenings that further our information on the cosmos.
NASA, SpaceX Looks at Hubble's Reboost Possibility
NASA and SpaceX announced to the world that it is collaborating for a future mission for the Hubble Space Telescope, but first, it needs to study its feasibility and consider many factors for this venture. The agency and private space company already signed a Space Act Agreement which remains unfunded, involving the Polaris Program in this future mission.
This mission is known as Hubble's Reboost Possibility, and it aims to help the space telescope in its current state and place it in a higher orbit for further use.
The study will take six months for SpaceX, Polaris, and NASA to complete and determine soon if this will be feasible to undertake, especially as the government does not plan on funding this mission.
NASA to Employ SpaceX Crew Dragon for Hubble
Elon Musk is celebrating the idea of this feasibility study in the tech CEO's latest tweet, and it only shows that SpaceX is on board with the idea despite having no funding to receive in the future. NASA will collaborate with SpaceX and Polaris on this study, being a milestone for the company as well, especially as it will give them an idea regarding servicing missions in the future.
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope
NASA's Hubble is one iconic spacecraft present in the world as it doubles as a telescope that surveys and investigates different regions and areas for its astronomical phenomena for people to know. One of its most significant works is its largest photograph of the universe which captures a massive region, along with rare galaxies.
Hubble is famous for its deep space scans, but another spacecraft already launched earlier to deliver new surveys and research of the great beyond. The James Webb Space Telescope is one powerful array of cameras and lenses to help NASA study the space around the planet, and learn more about its mysteries.
However, it is not exactly a replacement for the Hubble as the telescope is still functioning and will continue to deliver on its purpose, alongside the JWST.
People have to admit that Hubble is already around for more than thirty years since the spacecraft first launched in 1990 to bring new research to the world. It has not rested a day since then, and it faced many challenges and threats which it surpassed and lived to tell the tale up until now.
NASA and SpaceX have plans, but it needs further studies before undertaking the mission for Hubble.
