Ever since automakers followed the move of Tesla to electrify vehicles, many people began to consider replacing their conventional cars.

They want to have zero-emission vehicles so that they can help reduce the rising carbon emissions across the globe. However, this YT creator has something different in mind.

Instead of turning gas-based vehicles into electric cars, Rich Rebuilds decided to do it the other way around.

Converting vehicles is no longer new for Rich Rebuilds since this YouTuber focuses on creating content where he and his team rebuilds cars into different vehicles.

According to Vice's latest report, Rich Rebuilds (Rich Benoit) used a Tesla with a destroyed power train.

Since the EV's original engine is no longer repairable, the YouTuber replaced it with an antique truck engine.

Benoit explained that they wanted to rebuild the Tesla as to what it was before. However, when they tried to purchase the needed battery and motor from the giant EV maker, the company didn't approve their request.

"So, what do we do? Diesel. Where do you get it? Everywhere," said Rich via his official YouTube video.

However, they were forced to stop their project after the Environmental Protection Agency sent them a warning letter.

Is Converting EV to Diesel Car Illegal?

Benoit's EPA warning letter is not specifically for his Tesla EV-to-diesel project. However, the content creator said that one of his two videos showing his Tesla conversion put them in trouble.

The YouTuber explained that the electric-to-diesel conversion wasn't really the issue. He added that their main problem is the antique truck engine they decided to use.

EPA explained that Tesla EVs have VIN numbers that determine what standards they follow. Since these electric car models are quite new, replacing their engines with outdated ones will really be an issue.
