Google is giving its users the city and neighborhood 'vibes' plus the improved 'immersive view' on its latest update.
The new feature of the search engine tool was announced on Wednesday, Sept. 28, during the company's third annual Search On event. It will unlock more details and highlights of certain locations, so the users will have further visual ideas of what the places are like.
"We're advancing visual search to be far more natural than ever before, and we're helping people navigate information more intuitively," said Cathy Edwards, the VP and General Manager of Google.
Android and iOS users around the globe may expect changes to this app in the coming months.
The update is part of Google's redesigning effort to offer more than text and images. Its objective is to keep the users on the result pages longer than usual, refraining them from clicking and jumping off to another website.
Exploring the City and Neighborhood 'Vibes'
To deliver comprehensive and much more interesting search results, Google is adding in the selections for 'pronunciation,' 'history,' 'beaches,' and 'culture.'
More visual stories and short videos taken by other visitors may appear on the site. Additional results include tips on how to enjoy the city, activities and other things to do within the area, and how to get there.
To experience the 'vibes,' a feature allowing one to zoom into a site or restaurant will soon be available to the users. This is a great way to take a closer look at what the neighborhood seems like in reality.
Furthermore, data on what the weather may be like on the day users are planning to go there will be accessible on the app.
The said update is the product of artificial intelligence, combined with the local data from the users, which are about 20 million reviews and media files uploaded on Google Maps.
The Real-World Aerial Views
Prior to this 'zoom-in and out' feature of the new Google update, the company had already launched realistic aerial views of global landmarks in July.
This 'immersive view' allows Google users to have a multi-dimensional perspective of different tourist spots around the globe.
Google initially introduced 100 photorealistic views of famous landmarks. As of this day, the app features more than 250 places!
The company promises to launch in Los Angeles, London, New York City, San Francisco, and Tokyo in the next few months.
On top of these aerial views, the Google results also show critical information about the area. These include weather updates, road traffic, and more busyness information.
Undoubtedly, this marks a "significant step toward a more immersive map," said Chris Phillips, a VP and General Manager of Google.
