Apple AirPods Pro 2 has undergone a CT scan to give us a glimpse of what is inside the all-new wireless earbuds of the iPhone maker.
The Cupertino-based tech giant introduced its second-generation AirPods Pro during its Far Out event, alongside the latest iPhone 14 series and the new Apple Watch Ultra.
Apple AirPods Pro 2 Scan Reveals Lanyard Loop Might Have Another Purpose
The latest news from 9to5 Mac reports that it has been less than a week since Apple started shipping its all-new AirPods Pro 2. But as early as now, we now have some sort of idea of what the internal of the wireless earbuds look like under a CT scan.
While that scan is far from what an actual tear-down offers, the scan from Lumafield still gives us a glimpse of what Apple stuffed inside its new AirPods Pro.
And although it looks quite unclear, something interesting pops up.
By the looks of it, the additional lanyard loop seemingly houses something else beneath it. So it appears that Apple did not simply include the new holster for the lanyard for the sake of it. It might also be accompanying a new feature.
According to a report by Mac Rumors, the Lumafield scan discovered that the lanyard provision is connected to the Lightning connector of the charging case.
And as such, the CT scanning firm assumes that it could likely be the antenna for the U1 chip. It says that "perhaps it's an antenna to support improved "Find My" tracking.
AirPods Pro 2 CT Scan
Besides the revelation beneath the lanyard loop, the CT scan also shows the other internal of the new AirPods Pro.
9to5 Mac notes in its story that the scan reveals that the internal of the next-generation charging case is still closely similar to what we saw on the first-ever AirPods Pro.
To be more precise, the online news outlet notes that it still sports the same magnets that the first-gen had for its wireless charging feature. And the logic board is still sandwiched between two batteries like its older sibling.
So it turns out there is not much new to see except for the new lanyard loop that Apple adds in the second-gen.
But it's really hard to say for sure with the CT scan alone.
Perhaps an actual tear down in the next few days should reveal more explicit details. It should also give us a better idea of what Apple is hiding beneath the lanyard holster.
