Nintendo Switch 2 rumors seemingly resurface after no less than an NVIDIA employee has confirmed a new SoC, which is predicted to power the next-generation hybrid gaming console.
While rumors of a next-generation Switch never died, the renowned Japanese gaming firm has consistently denied its existence.
Nintendo Switch 2 Rumor Arises Again
This time, according to a report by Metro UK, it appears that the long-rumored Nintendo Switch chip is actually in the works, an employee of NVIDIA confirmed on a mailing list.
While Nintendo shrugs off rumors that it is working on a next-generation handheld console, it turns out that its alleged SoC actually exists beyond sketchy rumors and leaks.
Metro UK notes in the same report that the next Switch console is likely to sport a new customized Tegra239 chip.
It is worth mentioning that the current version of the Nintendo device, including the recently released Switch Pro, runs on a Tegra X1. Meanwhile, rumors are pointing out that the next-gen console is seeing a massive upgrade in its chip.
The news outlet highlights that roughly a year ago, a leaker, who goes by the name kopite7kimi, predicted that the next Switch would feature a T239 SoC.
Metro UK adds that the chip in question is rumored to come with ray-tracing support. It suggests that the successor of the first Switch likely offers overall better graphics without any sweat. That said, it should be a significant performance upgrade from its predecessor.
NVIDIA Employee Confirms Rumored Nintendo Switch 2 SoC
As per the latest report by The Gamer, an Nvidia employee has finally confirmed that the rumored Switch 2 chip, the Tegra239, is not merely based on wild rumors.
Instead, an internal email corroborates an early rumor predicting a so-called Tegra239 chip.
A subreddit known as the GamingLeaksAndRumours leaked the email that mentioned the long-rumored Switch 2 chip. It gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming custom SoC.
For instance, the leaked email mentions that the new Tegra239 chip features up to 8 cores of CPU.
The email reads: "adding support for Tegra239 SoC which has eight cores in a single cluster." Beyond that, the details of the rumored Switch 2 SoC remain scant.
If the new email leak is to be taken seriously, it confirms that the Tegra239 is in the works. But it remains to be seen if Nintendo is already working on the next-gen Switch that it has persistently denied.
