After eight years after its launch, EA just announced that The Sims 4 will going to be free to play starting on October 18th as reported first by Engadget.
The company announced this on its official Twitter account and stated that this new update aims to have more players share their stories through the game.
More future Sims 4 content will also be showcased on the same date as a teaser of what the gamers might expect from the game. The company noted on its website that the team behind this is more dedicated than ever to producing new content to cater to new audiences and retain its fans.
The Sims 4 will be downloadable for free on all platforms like PC via EA app or Origin, Mac via Origin, Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One systems. Maxis and Electronic Arts will be hosting a livestream on the said date to share what to expect from the "free" franchise.
The fourth installment of the franchise was remarkable to its player as it became more popular compared to the past installments despite having problems during its early stages. Currently, Gamerant reports that it has 31 million players worldwide.
For players who have purchased the game already, Electronic Arts will be gifting users who have purchased the game before October 17 the upcoming Desert Luxe Kit that comes with a handful of southwestern desert-themed furniture items in the game.
EA have already released twelve expansions where gamers who will use the game for free, will be missing out as a lot of features are included on these.
EA indicated that the game's developer is "more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful experiences for players, and will continue to develop and release packs, kits, and Sims delivery express drops into the foreseeable future."
The Sims 5 Speculations
A report from PC Gamer states that this may be a sign that an announcement of The Sims 5 is about to happen. The company is also celebrating its eighth anniversary this month, so it will make sense for them to announce the big news. Although this "free-to-play" service has been in the works throughout the past decade, it may be a fool's hope.
No confirmations yet about the newest installment. November last year when EA staffed up the development team of the company only for the existing games as reported by Gamerant. This dismayed the fans as this means that the company is not planning anytime soon on developing The Sims 5.
