Apple critics and customers have published reviews on the new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max features, including the Always-On Display.
Although the said feature allows you to view the time and your widgets without turning on your phone, it still lacks customization and could affect your phone's battery life.
iPhone's Always-On Display
According to MacRumors, the Always-On Display feature does not let you customize your screen. It only displays a tinted version of your iOS 16 Lock Screen wallpaper, Live Activities, and widgets.
You won't be able to customize the display, such as changing the information that shows on the screen or whether the wallpaper should be darkened or not.
But the Always-On Display can be disabled from within the Display and Brightness section of Settings if you do not plan to use the feature.
The feature also uses a power-efficient OLED display with a variable refresh rate of 1Hz. It is considered a power-saving feature for the Always-On Display on iPhones.
However, 9to5Mac reported that a YouTuber named Marques Brownlee said that the battery life of his iPhone 14 Pro was affected because of the Always-On feature.
Connection to Apple Watch
According to XDA Developers, the Always-On Display feature will automatically disable if you are an Apple Watch user and leave your iPhone 14 Pro behind in a room.
This automation uses proximity data from the Apple Watch and aims to save the iPhone 14's battery life.
A German YouTuber Felixba, who was present at the Steve Jobs Theater for Apple's recent "Far Out" event, had hands-on time with the new products.
Felixba said that Apple did not mention this unique feature on its website during the event and that this is a lesser-known power-saving feature the iPhone 14 Pro has.
Apple's Dynamic Island
Apple's iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max may look similar to iPhone 13 Pro on the back, but their front has been replaced with a pill-shaped screen cutout that houses an upgrade called the TrueDepth camera system.
The spaces around the cutout show system alerts and background activities. The smartphones also have the Face ID security system.
Apple's new display, Dynamic Island, enlarges and shrinks when you receive a call. It also displays the music you're playing, the timers that you've activated, and other notifications.
Dynamic Island is interactive as your activities show on the cutout that you can tap anytime. For example, if you're on a FaceTime call, you can tap and hold the interface to bring up the controls.
Both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max got upgraded cameras, a faster processor, an Always-On Display, and iOS 16. It also has new safety features such as Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite.
According to CNET, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro costs $999, and the 6.8-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max costs $1,099.
The new iPhone lineup is available in space black, silver, deep purple, and gold. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will go on sale on Friday, Sept. 16. They are currently available for preorder.
