A pair of AirPods has saved a baby!

Philadelphia police unusually investigated an abduction case by following a set of Apple AirPods that were left in the vehicle that was allegedly used in the crime, according to a report by Fox.

The report states that the baby was stolen along with the mother's AirPods, which the city's Special Victims Unit tracked down and used to locate the kidnapped infant.

The case is an intriguing but confusing example of technological surveillance, even though it was used for a good cause, especially to relieve a mother's worry about finding her lost child.

However, it is worth noting that only minimal information has been made public by the authorities, including whether the police tracked the mother's AirPods through her phone or through cooperating with Apple itself.

Police found the mother's car at Castor and Griffith Streets in Rhawnhurst, according to officials, after tracking the AirPods in the vehicle.

AirPod Tracking's Pros and Cons

Although it seems like this is one of the first kidnapping cases where police have employed AirPod tracking, they have also done this before to locate stolen vehicles, as noted by Futurism.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office reportedly used pings from a pair of recently stolen AirPods to locate a stolen automobile and several illegal firearms earlier this year.

It's important to note that stalkers have long used Apple's location monitoring technology, long before the cops. For instance, a man from Las Vegas was charged with stalking a woman using wireless earbuds last summer.

The disturbing practice of following others using Apple's AirTags-which are designed to be used to prevent losing personal belongings as baggage or keys-also extends to AirPod tracking.

Reports of stalkers using AirTags to track their victims have become frighteningly common, while law enforcement agencies are increasingly adopting the technology to monitor stolen properties.
