The latest high-end flagship smartphone of Google is supposed to debut with handy face recognition capability. However, upon its launch, it shipped to its users without any Face Unlock in sight.

Google Pixel Pro 6's Face Unlock Feature

Despite that, as per a news story by 9to5 Google, the tech giant appears to be working on its arrival to the Pixel Pro 6.

And this time, the latest Android 13 QPR1 Beta 1 showcases how the upcoming functionality actually works once it rolls out.

The search engine giant states that the upcoming Face Unlock feature on Pixel 6 Pro "works best when there's enough light and you're not wearing a mask or dark glasses."

It only makes sense as wearing a mask covers half of your face. However, it is worth noting that other phone makers like Apple had already addressed that.

On the other hand, Google says that those who wear eyeglasses should not worry about it while setting the Face Unlock capability on its high-end flagship device. The phone maker notes that "you can wear them during setup."

Google Warns Against Pixel Face Unlock Feature

The renowned tech giant believes Face Unlock is less secure than other authentication options.

The Pixel maker warns its users that face recognition provides lousier security than good ol' counterparts, like a password, PIN, or a strong pattern.

On top of that, the tech firm also warned Pixel users that the face recognition function could potentially unlock your phone even while you do not intend to. It comes as simply looking at it might do the job.

What's more, Google alarmingly discloses that the Face Unlock could work even if the eyes of its users are closed. So it allows another person to simply access your smartphone while you are dozing off.

And of course, if you have an identical sibling or, oddly enough, someone who looks exactly like you, they could also unlock your device without your consent.

According to a report by Android Central, the warning seems to be because the Pixel 6 Pro fails to feature any specialized hardware for face recognition. And as such, it would only work using the selfie camera.

While face recognition in other smartphones these days is more secured, it looks like the Pixel 6 Pro has a bit of a limitation.
