Users can now block posts relating to the chosen words, emojis, and phrases. Based on the blog post that the company made, they stated, "Whether you're seeing something that's not relevant, or have moved on from something you used to like, you can use this feature to stop seeing content that's not interesting to you."

The platform is also in the works of adding a new way to customize the posts on the Explore section by adding a new feature, such as "Not Interested," that will hide posts similar to the reported one for future use.

As per the same statement, Meta's goal is for users to feel good about what they see on the platform hence the several testings. This means that this will be dedicated to the users who were frustrated by the recommendations that Instagram was giving.

Criticisms from the People

The company announced that the full-screen feed will be toned down as users were not happy with the testing. They were also criticized by the people on the internet because the features are so much alike to TikTok, making them carbon copies of the platform and losing their originality.

Among the people who criticized the change were Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, who shared their sentiments on Twitter. The two sisters asked Meta to bring back the old Instagram.

Adam Mosseri admits the similar features and explains in an interview for Platformer. As a result, the testing slowly disappeared and lasted for weeks. These complaints were welcomed by him as they will make their platform better.

Meanwhile, Mosseri said that the reduction of recommended posts will also start as people started complaining that it was overpowering the posts from the users' following.

Along with him, the other executives from Meta are currently in plans to change the algorithm of the Instagram feed. Not only will it be showing content from users that they follow, but it will also now be including AI-driven recommended content as a part of redesigning the platform to compete with TikTok.

The said memo includes the emphasizing of contents from different pages, creators, and people whom they do not follow. The goal is to shift both platforms into a 'Discover Engine' that will rely on recommendations from new people.
