Meta's Instagram TikTok-like features are now being pulled out after continuous criticism from its users.
Among the individuals who shared their disappointment are Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, the popular celebrity sisters.
The tech firm's decision to discontinue the app's test version was confirmed by Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri on Thursday, July 28.
Before this was announced, Mosseri said that they will continue the TikTok-like features since they are seeing increased likes and shares on the Instagram platform.
But, the backlashes seem to be effective in encouraging Meta to pull out the criticized enhancements.
Meta's Instagram TikTok-Like Features Pulled Out!
According to CNBC's latest report, many users, including the Kardashian sisters, shared their frustration about the Instagram test version.
They said Meta is clearly copying the mechanics of TikTok, saying that the tech firm is moving away from how Instagram originally works.
Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian even shared memes on Twitter, asking Meta to make Instagram the way it was.
If you haven't seen the test version of Instagram, this app model offers full-screen videos. Aside from this, the application also tends to recommend posts more frequently.
Because both of these features are very similar to the ones offered by TikTok, many users were disappointed. To solve the problem, Meta decided to pull the features out.
In an interview with the Platformer, Mosseri confirmed that the TikTok-like enhancements will slowly disappear in the next one or two weeks.
Instagram Chief Admits Mistake
Mosseri admitted that they made a mistake regarding the TikTok-like features on Instagram.
But, he explained that this just shows that they are thinking big enough to make the social media platform better.
"I'm glad we took a risk - if we're not failing every once in a while, we're not thinking big enough or bold enough," said the Instagram chief.
He added that they definitely need to take a big step back, saying that they learned a lot from the criticisms that users made.
Although the TikTok-like features are being removed, Mosseri clarified that they will still enhance Instagram's videos.
Meanwhile, the new Instagram Maps feature has been launched as part of Meta's efforts to help businesses.
On the other hand, the Instagram Creator Marketplace is finally available.
