Zoom did not originally invent the 'Push-to-Talk' feature. However, the platform is one of the first video conference applications that were able to introduce this feature to their users in 2020.
Based on a report from The Verge, Google Meet will also be adding this feature as it was announced last Friday. The ability to mute-unmute yourself in just one click is now possible with Google Meet. This can be done by holding the spacebar for unmuting and releasing it for the opposite.
As announced on their Blogspot called Google Workspace Updates, this feature will roll out in September, but users might wait 15 days later after the announcement to use this feature smoothly.
The company also added that this will not be automatically included in the update as users will have the option to enable this feature through the platform's settings.
From the previous announcement, Google also announced last week the updates regarding the platform. An improved and updated voice control behavior for "Hey Google." This update will make the Google Assistant inactive when a certain device is in a meeting to avoid interruption.
Other platforms' updates were also announced by the company, such as Calendar's improved authentication with OAuth 2.0, additional flexibility functions for the Sheets, visitor connection and collaboration for Drive, and joining spaces in Gmail.
Google's New Application
Last month, the merging of the two applications of Google was confirmed. Yet, Meet and Duo's individual original applications are retained in the application stores.
The new application called 'Meet' was given to the users by the company. It features the shortcut to exchange from one application to another.
The merging of the two applications was for Google to solve the issues that the company is experiencing regarding modern communication tools, as it was confirmed by The Tech Outlook.
Similar Features from Other Video Conference Platforms
Microsoft Teams also added an application for the platform last August 20, and it is called "Walkie Talkie." It offers the same features as Zoom and Google Meet, where you will hold a button for it to function. Although this will be supported by Android devices that include Google Mobile Services or GMS and iOS devices, this function is currently unavailable for China.
Announced just last week, Webex of Cisco also introduced the Zoom-like feature on their platform that was posted on the company's help center. The announcement also provides different added features, such as mute while sharing, the ability to mute the participants as a host, and more.
