Although Sharma did not elaborate his departure, this was confirmed by Meta Spokesperson Bryan Pope. The responsibilities of the former VP were to create a captivating experience in virtual reality for users to enjoy the metaverse, through the help of Meta's Oculus headsets.

Together with Horizon Worlds, Sharma led the whole team in making Horizon Venues where users can experience virtual events on the platform.

The Reason Behind the Departure

Pope said that the reason behind the sudden departure was a new opportunity ahead that is totally unrelated to what he was doing with the company, as per The Verge.

"Thanks to his leadership, the Horizon product group has built a strong team with an ambitious vision and it is just getting started. Meta continues to be a source for developing great leaders, and we're excited to see what Vivek accomplishes in his next chapter.", he added.

Social Media Backlash

Following his resignation is the flock of different criticisms and meme-makings regarding the virtual reality's graphics quality. Just this month, the CEO of the company Mark Zuckerberg posted screenshots from virtual reality and announced its expansion to two more countries: Spain and France.

The caption stated, "Looking forward to seeing people explore and build immersive worlds, and to bringing this to more countries soon." Hours later, the post became viral as it was flooded by memes and mockery regarding the "low quality" of the graphics that it offers its users.

$10 billion was the total amount that the company has spent for this platform, yet as per the people on the internet, the high budget doesn't show it. Several comparisons were also made, including Second Life which offers similar features.

Days after the internet backlash, Zuckerberg uploaded a new screenshot where graphics were improved than the previous one. The CEO also admitted the company's mistake of creating a 'pretty basic' graphics.

Despite the departure of the company's one of the most important people and the online criticisms, Meta moves forward as they announce the launch of a new VR headset and more new reality gadgets that are expected to be available in the market between 2022 and 2024.

New features are yet to announce but during his guesting on "The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast", Zuckerberg confirmed that the new VR will include a new option that will allow facial and eye tracking activities.
