Nintendo Releases 'Splatoon 3' Beginner's Guide, a How-To Splatoon to Help Newbies

Here is an ink-troduction for Splatoon 3.

One of Nintendo's biggest gaming titles of the year, "Splatoon 3," will be splashing into the Switch early this September. As its launch nears, the video game console company released a beginner's guide for Splatoon 3.

According to GoNintendo, this new gameplay trailer from "Splatoon 3" introduces us to its gameplay's basics and some facts to go with its setting and characters.

This is to help players who have not played any Splatoon titles yet, to familiarize them with the game mechanics. And also to warm-up Splatoon fans excited for the comeback of the teen-squid shooter game.

Nintendo published Gameplay Research 101, its Beginner's Guide for Splatoon 3, last Aug. 24. This 5-minute guide and walkthrough about everything Splatoon is narrated by a researcher from the Squid Research Lab.

Nintendo Life tells us that the new single-player story option is also given another sneak peek in the trailer. This highlights it as the ideal place to hone your skills before engaging in online ink combat.

A Beginner's Guide for Splatoon: Squid To Kid

First, the announcer introduces us to a puddle of yellow ink where a little squid jumps out. The video shows that squids can travel through splats and blots of ink, no matter where it is spilled.

What happens next is that the squid from earlier jumps out of the ink pool and turns into an ink gun-wielding, yellow-haired kid. According to the guide, players can turn into squid form to hastily swim and sneak through ink, and then they can go back to being a kid to blast ink all around the arena. Simply put: a squid swims, and a kid shoots ink.

Inkling Basics

The guide then tells us that transforming into a squid is a much faster way of traveling from one point to another. Although running on foot can still help you cover a reasonable distance, a squid paddling with all six tentacles in swim mode can always beat you in a Splatoon race.

Another tip: ink up walls so you can easily swim up in swim mode. Remember that squids can travel on any surface, no matter their orientation, as long as they are painted in ink. For ink gunners, they can aim their ink guns by moving their controllers. Cover the place with the most ink to have more space for swim mode. Also, you are most mobile when moving within your own ink color, and enemy ink will slow you down drastically.

About Turf War, Weapons, and More

The Turf War is an exciting 3-minute, 4 versus 4 Splatoon game. The rule here is simple, the team to ink the most area wins. At the end of the game, two cute cats will be deciding which squid team splatted the most ink.

To fight enemy teams gaining an advantage, ink over their painted area to reclaim your zones.

As for weapons, the most picked is the classic water gun-like ink gun which can help you splash ink for short distances. Many players also like going for the massive brushes and buckets used as ink sloshers. You can even join in the battle with an umbrella that also shoots out ink.

If an inkling gets covered by enemy ink, it will be knocked out from the Turf War but will just respawn repeatedly.

The guide then introduces us to the different modes of the game. Check the complete guide here to learn about the Splatoon 3 Ink-troduction:
