SpaceX and T-Mobile have just announced an event that is expected to take place on August 25. Although details remain unknown regarding the event, the news is quite exciting given SpaceX owns Starlink, a fleet of satellites that provide internet access, and T-Mobile, a telecommunications company.
SpaceX Announced that It is Partnering Up with T-Mobile on Twitter
According to the story by XDA-Developers, about ten years ago, T-Mobile was once struggling to compete against the likes of AT&T and Verizon. Now, T-Mobile has come out with big news as it will be partnering with SpaceX.
It was revealed through Twitter that the company will be partnering with T-Mobile for an event. The CEO and President of T-Mobile, Mike Sievert, will also be in appearance in order to give the public an update regarding what they should expect from the partnership.
YouTube Live Stream for the Event Discusses How the Companies Will Work Together
Although the details remain incredibly scarce as of press time, the description on the YouTube live stream for the event notes that it will be discussing "how T-Mobile and SpaceX will work together to increase connectivity."
Starlink is Already Servicing the United States, Australia, Europe, and South America
For those that are not too familiar with SpaceX, it is Elon Musk's company and not only works on manufacturing spacecraft but also by providing satellite internet service around the world to remote and rural areas.
So far, Elon Musk's Starlink, under SpaceX, has already deployed its services in certain parts of the United States, Australia, Europe, and South America. Within the areas, however, there are still some spots that have not yet been covered.
Assumptions is that SpaceX Will be Using T-Mobile's 5G Network to Make Up for Connection Gaps
There were also reports that despite having a good connection, services "can be spotty." As per XDA-Developers, although the upcoming event could tackle almost anything under the sun, they say that there is a possibility that the company, SpaceX, could announce that it would use the current 5G internet service of T-Mobile in order to cover certain gaps.
Over the course of the last few years, T-Mobile has expanded from being just a wireless carrier to being able to provide internet directly to homes and businesses. The carrier has been using 5G wireless coverage as leverage in order to provide reliable as well as affordable alternatives to other traditional internet providers which resulted in the company being able to rake in more than a million subscribers to its service.
