The company said that this controller would give gamers a unique gaming experience that can be altered or tailored to their own style. They stated that, "We are thrilled to unveil the DualSense Edge wireless controller for PlayStation 5, the first-ever high-performance, ultra-customizable controller developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment."

Personalized Controller Experience

Just like Xbox Elite, this new controller is fully customizable. The difference is that the DualSense Edge has more promising features such as removable analog thumbsticks, rear buttons, changeable stick caps, and multiple control profiles.

Based on a report from The Verge, this also allows gamers to interchange stick caps into standard, high dome, and low dome. Two buttons in the back can also be swapped, which can be mapped to any buttons. Replacing stick modules can also be done, but they will be purchased separately.

A trigger hair that can be adjusted was also added. This also locks at the rear, where players can lock their triggers to adjust the travel distance. Remapping and deactivating button inputs are also available in the new controller when dead zones happen.

An on-controller interface has been added by Sony for players to quickly switch between profiles, adjust volume, and chat balance, and access profile settings to alter the controller during a game.

When DualSense Edge has been purchased, players will get a braided USB-C cable that includes a connector housing where they can lock into the controller. A case will also be provided where all of the inclusions of the controller will be stocked in a certain place. The case can also charge the device via USB.

The Person Behind the Controller

The person behind the designs and how the process was conducted is Daisuke Kurihara, Sony's Art Director. He said via the PlayStation.Blog that this was the team's dream to create, and they were grateful for an opportunity like this.

He added that through PlayStation controllers, the company aims to emancipate the gamers' uniqueness by experimenting with their personalized controllers based on their playstyle regardless if they are professionals or just casual players.

In the end, Kurihara thanked the gamers, esports players, and developers who gave the company feedback on the design as it guided them to finish the controller.

As per CNET's report, Sony looks forward to sharing more detailed information regarding the newly introduced design, including the release date. The company wishes to see how the gaming community will use this new device to 'unlock its new potential' when it comes to optimization.
