A man looks at his phone while outside Microsoft's local headquarters in Beijing on July 20, 2021, the day after the US accused Beijing of carrying out the cyber attack on Microsoft and charged four Chinese nationals over the "malicious" hack in March.

But this time, the users of the Outlook app on mobile devices are seeing more ads than ever.

Microsoft Outlook App Now Shows More Ads

In fact, as per a news story by The Verge, ads on the mobile app of the email client of Microsoft now include ads in its single-inbox mode.

The online news outlet notes that the free users of the Outlook app initially only saw ads on the "Other" tab of its tabbed inbox option, which shows two categories, including the "focused" option.

Previously, the Redmond-based tech giant only stuffed ads exclusively on the "Other" tab of the split inbox.

But the latest update of the Outlook mobile app now also expands the ads to the single-inbox option, The Verge reveals in its report.

And as such, it is now more difficult than ever for Outlook mobile app users to avoid seeing ads while using the email client of Microsoft.

Now that the tech giant is aggressively showing more ads, Outlook app users would now start seeing them whether they are on a single-inbox option or the one with two categories.

The spokesperson of Microsoft, Caitlin Roulston, confirmed the expansion of ads on the Outlook mobile app to The Verge.

The Microsoft spokesperson goes on to say that free Outlook users would now see ads in their email inbox.

How to Hide Outlook App Ads

But on top of merely confirming the new update, Roulston disclosed that Outlook app users still have an option to only see ads in the "Other" tab.

And to do so, the Microsoft spokesperson says that free users of Outlook should "enable the 'Focused inbox' feature if they would like to see ads only in the 'Other' inbox."

Given that, if users of its Android or iOS app want to ditch these ads altogether while browsing their emails, they would now be forced to subscribe to Microsoft 365.

Microsoft Ads

According to a recent report by 9to5 Mac, Microsoft has been exploring the lucrative world of ads, much like how tech giants like Apple are doing.

That said, even if the users of the Outlook app have been getting tons of negative reviews on the Apple App Store, complaining about the ads, Microsoft is still expanding it.
