The SpaceX Cargo Dragon spacecraft, an advanced reusable rocket developed by Elon Musk's independent space company, was able to bring back some parts of a spacesuit.
These components are essential since they belong to a faulty space gear that delayed a previously International Space Station spacewalk.
The reusable SpaceX cargo rocket made its Earth re-entry on Saturday, Aug. 20, successfully splashing down at Cape Canaveral at exactly 2:53 p.m. ET.
Thanks to this successful mission, the Cargo Dragon completed its 25th mission to the ISS.
SpaceX Cargo Dragon Brings Back Faulty Spacesuit Parts
According to Digital Trends' latest report, among the most important cargos that the SpaceX spacecraft brought back to Earth are spacesuit parts.
The Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) components are quite essential since experts need to study them because of the incident that happened in March.
Previously, the EMU spacesuit worn by ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut, Matthias Maurer, was discovered to have a helmet water leakage.
Because of this, NASA had to delay the ISS spacewalk in March. The international space agency announced that the space gear flaw didn't harm Maurer.
Although this is the case, the ISS spacewalk involving the astronaut is still suspended since NASA needs to investigate the spacesuit problem.
Since the spacesuit components were able to return to Earth, the international space union can further study them, allowing researchers to find solutions to prevent potential gear issues in the future.
Other Things Brought Back by Cargo Dragon
Aside from the EMU spacesuit parts, NASA Gov reported that the latest SpaceX Cargo Dragon return mission also brought back essential studies, such as the following:
Bioprint FirstAid
This experiment sponsored by the European Space Agency demonstrates a handheld bioprinter for space and Earth-based applications.
Spacesuit Evaporation Rejection Flight Experiment (SERFE)
This study evaluates and demonstrates thermal technology using water evaporation techniques, allowing astronauts to have the proper temperature during spacewalks.
These are just some experiments that the SpaceX Cargo Dragon spacecraft returned to Earth. You can visit this link to see other studies.
In other news, the SpaceX Starship static fire test was a successful one.
On the other hand, the SpaceX Polaris Dawn mission now has an official launch date.
