Based on a report by Electrek, ABM, the parking management and transportation services that are currently working with the airport said that adding these chargers will make LAX the most extensive and largest electric vehicle charging station in the United States when the whole project is finished.
California is booming with the zero-emission vehicle market, as per California Governor Gavin Newson. With 1 million EVs sold, it is the largest EV charging network state and is also planning to elevate this record. A newly proposed standard has been issued and states that it aims to sell 5 million electric vehicles by 2035 and sees the market as environmentally friendly as it aims to only sell zero-emission vehicles by this year.
The rise of these vehicles in the market is fast, with over 6% in the total US market. As a matter of fact, LAX is not the only airport that offers these charging stations, but rather the whole top 10 largest airports in the United States.
A $5.5 billion fund was given to the additional ports project by LAX as it would be beneficial to the visitors' first-class experience. This fund was from the Landslide Access Modernization Program, which contains a total of $14 billion in project funds. The whole project is set to finish in 2023.
LAX Guide for EV Chargers
Even though charging at home and work is the option that will be very convenient to the users, these ports are more powerful as it offers supercharging that the house does not provide. Some charging ports only take 30 minutes to fully charge. However, this will depend on the charging station's offering.
As of the moment, 832 chargers are installed and ready to use in the airport. The 600 chargers are located in central parking structures and can be seen in the middle of the terminals. For an affordable option, charger ports are also located in the economy parking lot but require users to ride a shuttle ride when going.
Based on a report by KTLA, Some of these chargers contain the Level 2 speed, which will fully charge the whole vehicle in the span of 8 hours. Meanwhile, the DC Fast Charging is faster than this, as it can charge your EVs to 80 percent in just 20 minutes.
