As several automakers pledged to go electric by 2030, this is the perfect time to switch from traditional vehicles to electric vehicles.
Several factors will play into your decision to switch to EVs, regardless of whether it is a lease or a purchase, according to Electrek.
Aside from your preference for a certain model or design, specifications like range, cargo space, technology, and acceleration are all important to consider.
Charging speed is also something that you need to consider as it can be a deciding factor in choosing one EV or another. You can check out the top 10 fastest charging electric vehicles that are currently available.
Levels to Charging Your Electric Vehicle
Currently, there are three levels to charging your electric vehicle and each of them offer different speeds and levels of power.
Level 1 charging offers 120V, Level 2 charging offers 240V, and there is DC Fast Charing that only takes about an hour or so to charge your vehicle.
As an electric vehicle owner, these levels are important to understand because they have their own pros and cons. Also, each will be preferential at some point, given your driving circumstance on a certain day.
A new study has compared the charge speed of fifty-five different electric vehicles to see which one of them is the fastest when it comes to AC and DC power.
Methodology of the Study
The study, which was posted on the website USwitch, has compiled and compared the EVs that is stated below. According to the researchers, they've acquired the vehicle performance statistics from the EV Database.
Researchers also collected the AC and DC fast charging speeds for each electric vehicle in the EV Database.
The charging speed and the rapid charge speeds of the electric vehicles were calculated based on a 3-phase grid and CCS or 350 kW DC connection.
Each electric vehicles were ranked based on a normalized index accounting for regular speed and fast charging speed. In the case of the electric vehicles with several trim options, only the highest-ranking variants were used.
Ranking the Fastest Charging Electric Vehicles
The results of the study ranked the top 10 fastest electric vehicles. The mph in this study does not pertain to actual movement but rather the miles of range that were gathered during the one hour of AC and DC charging, according to Forbes.
The EV with the fastest charging speed is the Porsche Taycan Plus with 33 mph AC charging and 650 mph DC charging. The second is Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD with 32 mph AC charging and 650 mph DC charging.
Mercedes EQS 580 4MATIC comes in third with 33 mph AC charging and 490 mph DC charging. Fourth on the list is Tesla Model Y Long Range Dual Motor with 34 mph AC charging and 370 mph DC charging.
Hyundai IONIQ 5 Long Range 2WD comes in fifth with 31 mph AC charging and 580 mph DC charging. Audi e-tron GT quattro comes in sixth with 29 mph AC charging and 640 mph DC charging.
The seventh EV on the list is Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor with 33 mph AC charging and 340 mph DC charging. The eight one on the list is BMW i4 M50 with 31 mph AC charging and 370 mph DC charging.
Volkswagen ID.3 Pro Performance comes ninth with 35 mph AC charging and 300 mph DC charging. Meanwhile, CUPRA Born comes in tenth with 35 mph AC charging and 300 mph DC charging.
