'Rick and Morty' Creator's Game 'High on Life' DELAYED To December 13th

"Rick and Morty" creator Justin Roiland surprised everyone during the Xbox Games Showcase with the announcement of a new game called "High on Life." It's a zany-looking shooter with clearly humorous undertones, which got people excited due to Roiland's pedigree. But you'll have to wait just a bit more to get your hands on it.

That's because a "High on Life" delay has been announced: it now launches December 13th, six weeks from its original October 25th launch window. As reported by GamesRadar, developer Squanch Games' reason for the delay was simple: polishing. The game is simply just riddled with way too many bugs that will take more time to iron out. This could mean that the game is already fully playable - it's just not working as smoothly as one would like.

Squanch Games made the announcement on Twitter:

If you can't access the tweet above for some reason, here's the text:

"We have good news and bad news. The good news: High on Lfe is still coming in 2022! The team at Squanch Games is working hard towards developing the best gaming experience to hit your screens, and a little extra time to squash some bugs never hurts. With that in mind, our new launch date is set to December 13, 2022."

In a form of "apology" for the "High on Life" delay that only a studio fronted by the creator of "Rick and Morty" can give, they shared this short animation:

It's not even remotely related to "High on Life" or its delay, but it's something quite humorous to watch - and something you'd expect from the mind of Justin Roiland. Either way, the game is not leaving Xbox behind during the hectic holiday gaming season, and will likely be one of the biggest games bannering Microsoft later this year - especially in the absence of "Starfield," "Redfall," and "Elder Scrolls 6."

"High on Life" releases exclusively for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC as a Day One Game Pass title.

What Is 'High on Life' Exactly?

To many people (especially big fans of the "Rick and Morty" universe), a "High on Life" delay is a bummer. That's because it looks like Justin Roiland is bearing the full weight of his creativity on the game with just how different it looks from a normal, and dare we say "boring" first-person shooters.

To start things off, here's a trailer for the game:

In it, the biggest thing you should notice right away is how all of the guns - even the knives - have faces. They're all talking to you, and they seem to be characters on their own right that have their own personalities. But that's not all, as you can see.

The game's story revolves around you, the player, tracking down and eliminating members of an alien drug cartel who kidnap and sell humans AS drugs. Yeah, that's it. And you'll need to wait until December 13th to see what it really has to offer.
