Elon Musk Congratulates Tesla Shanghai For Producing One Million Cars; Total EV Production Exceeds 3 Million

Tesla's car production has fared well after it hit over three million EV units.

CEO Elon Musk congratulated the Shanghai Gigafactory for making its one-millionth unit despite several issues in the country, including COVID-19 lockdowns.

Although it has proven that the automaker is keeping its pace ahead of its competitors, the tech boss acknowledged that more challenges are coming in production than in demand.

Aside from COVID restrictions in China, the Gigafactory in the region has been plagued with chip shortages. The global semiconductor crisis has impacted almost all tech companies in the world.

However, that's not enough to stop Tesla from producing a great number of new EVs. At last, the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory, which started in 2019, has accomplished a surprising feat for the whole organization.

"Congrats Giga Shanghai on making millionth car! Total Teslas made now over 3M," Musk wrote on Twitter.

According to CNBC, Musk acknowledged the firm's achievement after the company reported a significant rise in sales in the latest quarters.

Last month, the carmaker delivered 254,695 EVs in Q2 2022. Tesla saw a year-over-year increase of 26.5% during the latest report on Sunday, Aug. 14.

Indeed, it's an impressive achievement for Tesla to make more than three million cars, but the company is aware that it needs more effort to catch up with other EV giants in the market.

For instance, Japan's Toyota has reportedly produced more than 10 million units. To date, it remains the largest automaker in the world.

Behind the Japanese car maker is Volkswagen, a popular luxury car brand based in Germany. Again, it exceeds what Tesla has achieved so far. It managed to deliver nearly 9 million cars in 2021.

'Production is Much Bigger Challenge than Demand'

As per another story from Business Insider, Musk embraces the competition in the market, particularly the "challenge" in production.

According to him, it poses a more challenging stake than the demand for cars. Elon knew that Tesla could do more during the second half of this year after being stuck in the "supply chain hell" for the past years.

During the same quarter, the EV maker shipped over 250,000 cars. Last week, the company hit a share price increase of $900.09. However, its stock shows no sign of improvement so far after recording a 25% decrease this 2022.

Meanwhile, Tech Times reported that Tesla Model 3 Long Range orders are no longer accessible in the online listing. It might take a long time before you can see this car on the website. The page suggests that it might be up again for sale in 2023.
