Previously, a serious cyberattack targeted Advanced, a British managed service company that provides useful IT systems to NHS.

"Advanced experienced a disruption to our systems that we have since determined to be the result of a cybersecurity incident caused by ransomware," said the software provider via its official website.

The company added that it quickly took action to isolate the affected Health and Care environments.

Nick Broughton, the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust chief executive, even sent an email to the health organization's employees.

He said that they were informed about the estimated recovery period for the cybersecurity breach. The official stated that the Adastra software might take two weeks to go back to regular operations.

On the other hand, Carenotes, another software owned by Advanced, could take more than three weeks to recover completely.

Although this is the case, Broughton said that plans are now being formulated to resolve the IT system issues as soon as possible. But, it will take a lot of effort.

Affected NHS Services

Since Advanced's CareNotes system is also affected by the recent ransomware breach, experts stated that NHS employees are still unable to access essential patient notes.

On the other hand, Adastra is used by more than 80% of NHS 111 services. This means that many critical health assistances are also impacted.

These include emergency prescriptions, appointment booking, out-of-hours care, patient referrals, as well as ambulance dispatch.
