New US Climate Bill May Allow Companies Hide Methane Emissions; Experts Claim RRC Already Doing It

A new U.S. climate bill is now concerning experts as it can allow many companies to hide their methane emissions. As of press time, the U.S. government requires factories to disclose their total overall emission rate of the harmful gas.

Range Resources Corp., the leading independent natural gas and NGL producer in the United States, is claimed to be the cleanest energy company.

RRC's official report, it claimed that it has the lowest methane emission rate. Because of this, the U.S. Senate wants other companies to be like Range.

This also means that the officials may soon pass the U.S. bill that will impose the first fee for potent greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Bloomberg's latest report, the U.S. Senate is now pushing the landmark climate legislation that will charge energy firms based on their overall methane releases.

However, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's examination revealed that there is a major loophole in the Senate's climate bill approach.

As of writing, RRC is allowed to slash its methane emissions, thanks to the unorthodox reading of a single word in the EPA regulations.

Because of this, Range Resources Corp. was able to reduce its production methane emissions by 93% back in 2020. Experts stated that this is quite different from other gas and oil firms.

They added that this workaround can be more widespread if the bill is pushed to become a law. This means that other energy companies can also adjust their data to show fewer methane emissions.

Why Methane Emissions are Alarming

UN Environment Program explained that methane emission is the major contributor to the harmful air pollutant called ground-level ozone.

If people are exposed to this greenhouse gas, their lives will be endangered. The ground-level ozone is already responsible for more than 1 million premature deaths every year.

Another thing that makes the methane gas alarming is that the air pollutant it creates is claimed to be 80 times more potent than carbon emissions.

On the other hand, U.K. blackouts are expected to happen this coming winter.

Meanwhile, the first carbon-neutral jet fuel was generated using a solar-powered tower.
