Apple's new iPhone Lockdown Mode feature is among the most advanced smartphone security techs in the market. The gadget manufacturer confirmed its arrival on July 6.
At first, the iPhone maker clarified that it was only available for high-profile users, such as politicians, celebrities, and other individuals highly targeted by cybercriminals.
This means that not everyone can have this security function. However, it seems like the iPhone developer is expanding the scope of Lockdown Mode.
Now, if ever you have this security feature on your iOS handset, here's how it works, how you can use it, and other important details.
iPhone Lockdown Mode 2022 Guide
According to The Wired's latest report, the new Lockdown Mode requires users to have the latest iOS 16 version. For those using tablets and other Apple devices, the new macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16 are required.
Critics who are already accessing this feature said that the Lockdown Mode is a different level of security feature since it entirely disables your smartphone once a cyberattack is detected.
On the other hand, if an individual's iPhone is already breached, the Lockdown Mode can still lessen the impact of the malware or other malicious content on the device.
Now, here are the things that the Lockdown Mode will do in case there's an iPhone breach:
- Block attachments in the Messages apps, as well as disable link previews.
- Prevent the iPhone from connecting to a computer or other devices.
- Block configuration profile downloads.
- FaceTime calls are also blocked when Lockdown Mode is activated.
How To Enable iPhone Lockdown Mode?
Laptop Mag provided the needed steps for you to enable the advanced iPhone Lockdown Mode feature:
- First, visit your device's Settings and go to the "Privacy and Settings" section.
- After that, scroll down until you reach the Lockdown Mode button at the bottom.
- Then, click the "Turn on Lockdown Mode" option. From there, a pop-up message will appear to confirm your decision.
- Once you see the "Turn on and Restart" button, just click it to move forward.
Meanwhile, the iPhone Mini models might soon be removed by Apple.
On the other hand, the default Apple apps may soon be banned because of the newly proposed bills of the U.S. Congress.
