The iPhone mini lineup could drop from the Apple roster. The mid-range smartphones, however, could be available in smaller sizes.
Apple First Introduced the iPhone Mini with the iPhone 12 Lineup
According to the story by 9to5Mac, about two years ago in 2020, Apple first introduced the iPhone mini with the iPhone 12 lineup. The sales of the smaller smartphone were not that impressive, but the company decided to give it another go with the iPhone 13 lineup last year in 2021.
The publication notes that now, it looks like the iPhone mini could be going away for good. Ever since the introduction of the previous iPhone 6 and 6 Plus back in 2014, iPhones have started to get bigger and bigger.
iPhone SE was Introduced Back in 2015
After that, iPhone was one of the few companies that remained using 4-inch screens. Since larger screens have started to become more and more popular, certain users have been complaining about smaller screens.
When it comes to smaller smartphones, users usually want to get the great features of a brand new one. This is when Apple decided to release the first ever iPhone SE back in 2015, which came with the exact same form factor as the company's previous iPhone 5s.
iPhone 6s was Still Able to Shoot in 4K
The device, however, came with the same hardware as the iPhone 6s. The small phone was even packed with the latest processor as well as the best camera that is capable of shooting 4K video.
The size of the iPhone SE was noted to be one of the reasons why people bought the smartphone. Another reason was that it was much more affordable compared to other iPhones on the roster.
Second-Gen iPhone SE was Far from Becoming a Smaller iPhone 11
The iPhone SE is expected to discontinue until the company decided to bring it back in 2020. When the iPhone SE came back, however, the smartphone took the same form factor as another Apple model, the iPhone 8.
The 4.7-inch LCD screen is not going to be as compact as the iPhone 5 but is also a bit smaller compared to any other modern iPhone. The second-gen iPhone SE was reportedly far from just becoming a smaller iPhone 11.
iPhone Mini Came with the Same Specs as the iPhone 12
The smartphone reportedly had the same chip but not the same cameras or even the same display quality. Sometime later in the year, the company decided to show a lot of love to demanding users that like smaller smartphones.
The iPhone 12 mini was launched as exactly an iPhone 12 but just smaller in size. Both the iPhone 12 as well as the 12 mini came with 5G, MagSafe, an OLED panel, an A14 Bionic chip, and more. The smartphone was geared to be successful, but it never really caught on.

iPhone Mini Might be Dropped for Good with No Entry in the New Lineup
Despite this, rumors have started to circulate regarding the cancellation of the iPhone mini for good. Apple is expected to introduce four new models this year, but the iPhone "mini" variant won't be one of them.
The mid-range iPhone 14, however, will come with the same 6.1 and 6.7-inch sizes just like the iPhone 14 Pro lineup.
