A high-ranking scam app has been removed from the official Apple App Store. Unlike other malicious applications, this one specifically targets Facebook advertisers.
For the past few years, the giant iPhone maker reiterated that its application platform is a safe place.
"For over a decade, the App Store has proved to be a safe and trusted place to discover and download apps," said Apple via its official App Store blog post.
But, it seems like the official Apple App Store is not 100% safe as malicious applications are on the app platform. Although this is the case, the tech firm still makes efforts to remove them.
High-Ranking Scam App Removed by Apple!
According to MacRumors' latest report, the scam app removed by the iPhone maker was recently a high-ranking application.
It is among the top apps appearing when you search "Facebook ad manager." The hackers behind this malicious tool presented it as a legitimate ads manager for FB advertisements.
However, cybersecurity experts discovered that it is a backdoor providing account access to malicious actors.
Because of this, the fake ad manager application was already flagged in July. But, Apple only confirmed its removal after Business Insider requested for comment.
Malicious Apps on Apple App Store
Recently, VPN Check claimed that dozens of malicious iOS apps are still lurking in the iPhone maker's official application platform.
TechRadar reported that Avast, an antivirus firm, already released data showing that more than 130 dangerous apps were active in March 2021.
However, a year after the report, VPN Check confirmed that more than 80 of the previously identified malicious applications are still active. These include horoscope, phone cleaner, wallpaper, and video editor apps.
This is why it is important to check the legitimacy of the iOS apps before installing them.
Previously, FTC announced that crypto scams were able to steal more than $1 billion from Americans.
On the other hand, cybersecurity experts claimed that the top-grossing applications on the Apple App Store contain scams.
