Elon Musk, the world's richest man, is set to meet Twitter in court starting Oct. 17. The trial will last for five days until Oct. 21, according to the judge.

The controversial feud between the tech billionaire and the social media giant began when Musk ditched the acquisition deal.

According to a report by The Verge, Twitter has already locked in that the trial will last for five days starting Oct. 17. As for the official schedule, Judge Kathaleen McCormick confirmed that it will run until Oct. 21.

The schedule was not settled by the two sides previously. Musk's lawyers wanted the trial to take place next year. Meanwhile, Twitter said that they could pursue a September date for the meeting at the Delaware Court of Chancery.

Elon and Twitter have an interesting history when it comes to relationships. A few months ago, Musk said that he wanted to buy the microblogging site for $44 billion. Many people were happy about this deal, while some disagreed with the Tesla boss.

However, the agreement did not go smoothly as planned. Twitter said Musk ditched the deal, making it "wrongful and invalid."

In this context, the social media giant thinks Musk is the law. For instance, he believes that he has all the power to change decisions for the company and its operations. Speaking of which, he could walk away with no problems and what ifs.

A few weeks ago, Twitter decided to file a lawsuit against the business tycoon. The company blamed Musk for casting a lot of doubts on the second-quarter earnings. Elon highlighted that the Q2 2022 results displayed worse performance than last year's.

In return, Musk said that Twitter was rushing the lawsuit. In fact, he added that it's a straight tactic of the company to hide the true number of bot accounts on the platform.

"Twitter has failed or refused to provide this information. Sometimes Twitter has ignored Mr Musk's requests, sometimes it has rejected them for reasons that appear to be unjustified, and sometimes it has claimed to comply while giving Mr Musk incomplete or unusable information," Musk's attorney penned in a letter.

This happened when Twitter decided to make a move and sue Musk. Elon directly said there's a need to reject the rushed lawsuit the firm filed against him.

What Happens if Elon Musk Loses the Case?

As per The Independent, there's no clear signs about the potential victor of the trial. However, if Elon drops his composure and slips down the trial, he might pay a huge penalty that Twitter is asking from the beginning.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Boston College law professor Brian Quinn said that if Musk disagreed to pay the penalty, he would be placed "in contempt and set a daily fine until he complies."
