Out of all of DC's upcoming movie projects, Suicide Squad seems to be generating most of the buzz. Sure, Batman v. Superman comes out the same year, but there's still so much that fans don't know about that movie, while most of the main cast of the Suicide Squad has already been confirmed. Also, there's a bit more unpredictability when it comes to Suicide Squad: Batman and Superman may go one-on-one for Dawn of Justice, but there's really no telling what DC will do with a team of psychotic super villains.
Unfortunately, Suicide Squad ran into a bit of trouble recently: Tom Hardy, one of the lead actors for the film, suddenly dropped out of the project. While his replacement is still being discussed (though Jake Gyllenhaal seems like DC's first pick), it's obviously a huge blow to the film.
There is a bit of good news to go with the bad: while Hardy's absence could damage the film, rumors have it that a certain Dark Knight is set to make an appearance in Suicide Squad.
According to Forbes, Batman is set to cameo in Suicide Squad, in a small confrontation with long-time archvillain the Joker. It makes sense (especially considering how many members of the Suicide Squad are Batman villains), and if the scene serves as a set-up to the solo Batman movie DC has planned - as the rumors suggest - it could be one of the first examples of DC's connected cinematic universe.
The rumors claim that the scene will be relatively small, and likely placed towards the end of the film; another sign that the Dark Knight's appearance would serve as a foundation for the two character's new on-screen rivalry. The cameo could help keep DC's momentum going strong, as Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to debut earlier in 2016, and fans won't get another full Batman feature until Justice League in 2017. Even if it was just a small part, a cameo could tide fans over until then.
While all of that could be great, considering how much is still up in the air with Suicide Squad's main cast alone, there's no way of knowing if Batman will appear in any capacity. These are just rumors, after all - as much as everyone wants to see more Batman, there's just no way of telling if he'll show up for Joker's next big debut.
Suicide Squad is currently set to debut on Aug 5, 2016.
