Viola Davis has finally come out and confirmed that she is indeed Amanda Waller in the 2016 DC movie Suicide Squad. This is the first time the actress has spoken about the character publicly after being cast for the role.
From what we can tell, she is clearly excited to play Amanda Waller and has already done a lot of research on the character. So far, the research is not extensive, but she is getting there.
The Nerd Report had the chance to sit down with Davis where the publication asked her several questions regarding the Suicide Squad role.
According to Davis, she has yet to read a single comic, but this is mainly due to her trying to fix her schedule to meet the demands of the film. We expect after she is done, the actress will get down into reading several DC comics that portray Amanda Waller. We suspect these comics will consist of the early Suicide Squad and more than likely the New 52.
Furthermore, she may need to read some Batman comics as well since the character is so closely linked with the Dark Knight in more ways than one.
"I'm fascinated by her. I'm fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She's this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I'm fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I'm excited to pick up a gun."
From what we can tell from the above quote, Amanda Waller will not just be the woman who created the Suicide Squad, but she might actually get out in the field as well. If this is the case, then DC and Warner Bros. are clearly going with the Waller from the New 52 since she is more active compared to the heavier Waller we have become accustomed to over the past decade.
Suicide Squad is the third movie in the newly created DC Cinematic Universe and is expected to hit theaters in August 2016.
