Munich-headquartered Siemens has collaborated with ConnectDER to bring a game-changing home EV charger adapter.
If you have problems upgrading your current electrical panel, this technology could be your newest solution to avoid costly installation. Apart from that, it's very convenient to use since it would save you a lot of time for the setup.
Siemens Unveil the Latest EV Charger Connector
Philadelphia-based firm ConnectDER excels in creating meter collars for homeowners. These are used for storing electricity and solar energy, but first, there's a need to conduct DER or distributed energy resources installation to make that happen.
This time, the company will help Siemens with the supplies of plug-in EV charger connectors, which allow households to charge their EVs.
According to Electrek, it's more useful since the adapter can control the EV circuit and monitor the total load. In this way, it will guarantee that the capacity won't exceed the normal count.
Indeed, investing in your electric panel will cost you some bucks. The installation cost alone is very high. Thus, you need a continuous update for it.
As such, you can potentially save up to 60 to 80% of the installation cost that you will spend on upgrading your electric panel.
In an interview with Electrek, a Siemens representative said there's no final pricing for the EV charger adapter yet.
The spokesperson instead cited that its price might be a "fraction of the cost of a service panel upgrade or other modifications often needed to make for a charger."
Speaking of its availability, he said that Siemens might launch it around Q1 2023. Regarding its distribution, it will be accessible through electricians, EV charger installers, and more.
Booming Home EV Charger Market in the US
As per Juniper Research's latest report, the home EV charger market has a bright future for the years to come in the United States. Since it's highly-efficient due to its affordability and convenience, a 390% growth is projected to take place in the next five years.
From $3.4 billion over the past year, the market for this product is expected to boom to $16 billion by 2026.
In the US, the National Association of Home Builders concluded in a survey that an average American home is 39 years old. However, those located in the Northeast reportedly existed for more than 60 years. Most of these houses depend on electric service, but it's rare that a home will exceed 100 Amps.
In another Siemens-related report, Robotic and Automation News wrote that the company is expanding robotic activities with the help of mobile robot manufacturer Geekplus.
