'Roblox' Iconic "Oof" Sound Replaced by New Default Audio! Here's Why It Was Removed

The iconic "Roblox" "oof" sound has been removed by Roblox Corporation. This detail was announced by the game developer on July 26.

Of course, many gamers were disappointed with the sudden change. For the past few years, the "off" audio remained one of the things that represent the popular block-building video game.

You can hear this sound when your character dies or takes damage from other entities within the game. Because of the "oof" audio's popularity, it has been used in various content on TikTok, YouTube, and other social media platforms.

"We're building towards a future where all creators can thrive. Any asset, including sounds, will have a presence in our Avatar Shop," said the American publisher via its official Twitter account.

The video game company added that its roadmap will allow gamers to add the in-game sounds they prefer to hear while playing.

However, they need to get them from the original creators and licensors.

Roblox Corporation further explained that the in-game sounds can be customized just like how gamers adjust their characters' clothes.

But, before this can be done in the popular block-building game, the title creator still needs to remove the sounds so that they can transfer them to the Avatar Shop.

Now, the "oof" sound is the latest in-game audio to be affected by Roblox Corporation's decision.

Can You Buy 'Roblox' "Oof" Sound?

This iconic in-game audio was created by Tommy Tallarico, who is now the CCO (Chief Commercial Officer) of Intellivision, a home video game console under Mattel Electronics.

He developed the sound, which was originally called "Messiah," back in 2000. However, he noticed that the in-game audio in "Roblox" is quite similar to his sound.

Because of this, he contacted "Roblox" to share his concern. After that, Tallarico decided to turn the sound into a microtransaction that can be licensed by developers for $1.

As of writing, it is still unclear if Tallarico will allow "Roblox" to add his "oof" sound in its Avatar Shop. But, if he ever decided to sell his sound via the in-game shop, players can just purchase it under his name.

If you are among the concerned gamers, the best thing you can do is wait for Roblox Corporation's further announcements.

Recently, "Roblox" shares increased by around 10% in the first quarter of 2022.

On the other hand, the "Roblox" Trojan virus previously infected gamers' PCs, as well as computers owned by companies and businesses.
