Walmart's last-mile delivery operations have officially begun their new era!
A public event was held at a Walmart store in Arkansas on Thursday, July 21, to formally launch the delivery cooperation between Walmart and drone company DroneUp.
Transforming Northwest Arkansas To A Technological Hub
The exhibition functioned as an open house to formally introduce DroneUp's aerial imaging, mapping, and inspection flight services to the Northwest Arkansas market.
Drone demonstrations were used during the occasion to display all three hub locations that operated from Walmart's store.
DroneUp can now deliver its products within 30 minutes for just $4 thanks to the delivery hubs it has set up at Walmart locations in Bentonville, Rogers, and Farmington.
Alex Buckley, who is in charge of DroneUp's Business Development, said in a statement, that the partnership is a "new mobility" that will usher the "future" for delivery.
The mayor of Bentonville, Stephanie Orman, stated that they are the home of the world's largest retailer, and as such, she is thrilled that the entire region is finding success with the introduction of these new technologies.
DroneUp aspires to help Northwest Arkansas in establishing the region as a technological hub. Buckley stated that the drone company can support Northwest Arkansas cities as they strive to become more technologically advanced.
Pilots, spectators, and delivery experts were present at the launch pads during the event.
Even though these drones are continually innovating, it is worth noting that DroneUp's models are still unable to fly in windy or inclement conditions, according to 5News.
Walmart And DroneUp Partnership
In June 2021, Walmart announced an undisclosed investment in DroneUp, a Virginia-based provider of drone technology that integrates airspace solutions, software programs, and analytics platforms.
The retail giant presently provides drone deliveries to several locations near its headquarters in North Carolina and northwest Arkansas.
By the end of the year, Walmart and DroneUp will add 34 new stations to their drone delivery service, according to Chain Store Age.
Walmart will be able to deliver more than 1 million parcels by drone per year thanks to the expansion, which would allow it to potentially reach 4 million households in the United States across six states - such as Virginia, Texas, Utah, Arizona, Arkansas, and Florida.
