Some Skullcandy earbuds will now be able to support two voice assistants at the same time, as reported by Engadget. It was only last year when the brand debuted its own assistant, the Skull-IQ that was made available to the Grind Series and Push Active earbuds.
Primarily, Skull-IQ is focused on controlling audio that includes management of media player, adjustment of device settings, and answering or dismissing calls. Sure, it can do a lot of things, but it still calls for another voice assistant, and this is where Alexa comes in.
Now, some earbuds will allow for dual voice assistant feature but it is still unclear when it will be available on Skullcandy's earbuds.
Amazon Expands Alexa
Indeed, Alexa coming to Skullcandy is a part of the brand's efforts to expand Alexa in other ways. In fact, Alexa is also being used as Sonos Voice Control and Pioneer's NP1.
Most recently, Amazon announced developer tools that will let the app and device makers create Alexa routines and suggest them to users.
Also at the Alexa Live Event, Amazon announced future capabilities such as Universal Device Commands (UDCs). The UDC will invoke a command from any compatible assistant on the device. Moreover, there will be Agent Transfers (ATs) that can shift requests from one assistant to another.
All of these features will make it easier for customers to use multiple assistants on a device without having to worry about remembering a voice assistant's specific features and limitations.
Amazon is also clubbing Alexa Smart Screen SDK and the AVS Device SDK under a single SDK, which is called Alexa Voice Service (AVS) SDK 3.0 for multimodal experiences across smart devices.
Skullcandy Earbuds
There is quite a range of Skullcandy earbuds you can choose from today. For one, the original Dime is the most affordable one but will deliver a solid listening experience. Although it doesn't have active noise cancellation, it has IPX4 splash resistance, multimedia controls on the buds, Bluetooth 5.0, and a charging case.
On the other hand, the Skullcandy Jib is also affordable which is a big change in the physical size compared to the Dimes. This is to make way for the longer battery life, which is up to six hours and another 16 hours with the charging case.
The Skullcandy Sesh Evo, which looks a lot like the Jib but with a more refined design and popping colors. It comes with IP55 water and dust protection, three EQ settings, and Tile Support.
There are more Skullcandy earbuds to choose from today-let's just hope that your choice gets the dual-assistant mode.
