Meta is now seeing a dispute on its name, as an older company that shares the same name is pushing for a case that would make what was previously known as Facebook pay for what it did. Allegedly, Meta Facebook took the name without permission from Meta.is, and this is despite its company name already officially trademarked.
Meta Facebook to Soon Face Lawsuit for Allegedly Taking Name
Meta Facebook is soon to face a lawsuit, and it is because an old company named "Meta" as well, is claiming that Mark Zuckerberg's company allegedly copied and used its trademark name. According to Meta.is, Facebook took the company's name last October 28, and this is despite having it for more than 12 years already.
The full complaint talks about how Meta (Facebook) stole its IP and other spaces, which the older Meta company has worked on for the past decade. Meta.is said, "Today, we take a stand for the future of our industry to ensure that intellectual property rights are recognized, protected, and respected."
Further saying that "we have been META since 2010."
Meta.is is Pushing for a Trademark Lawsuit Case Against Meta
The Verge's report said that Meta.is is an art installations company that is now putting its case to courts regarding the name dispute that the company formerly known as Facebook presented. There is no current response from Meta's (Facebook) side, and the case is still underway for filing and making it official in courts to serve upon Zuckerberg's company.
Meta's Name Change for the Company
Back in October 2021, Facebook made a decision that aims to save the company and replace its branding with what it supposedly is, hence a name change to Meta. Mark Zuckerberg introduced the world to a whole new experience, something that is universal for all and not just for the famous social media platform that retained its name for the app.
Facebook's stock ticker also saw its change to the new name, "META," and its listing on different platforms would no longer display the previous initials of the past title in the market. It makes the transition official, and its name and initials to what the company wants it to be, as a gateway to the world's digital experience.
However, now is a massive dispute or case to its new name, especially with the lawsuit it is about to face from a company known as Meta.
Meta and Meta.is would have to settle this dispute in a court of law, and it would decide who is the true beholder of the name, but that is something that will be a challenge soon. Meta.is would have to present everything they need, and the same goes for Meta Facebook, which would defend their title, especially as it is their new branding as a company.
