Sony recently announced that it is acquiring Repeat.gg, a tournament platform, as reported by The Verge. Repeat.gg is known in the esports world with over 2.3 million participants. It also features popular games like Fortnite, League of Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
Sony is excited about its latest investment and said that it will explore more ways to enable players to engage in competitive gaming and expand their esports offerings, as reported by GamesIndustry.
The Acquisition
With this acquisition, Repeat.gg will gain access to more game titles, resources, and technology. Furthermore, the platform will continue to support PC, mobile, and other consoles.
This acquisition follows Sony's purchase of Evo, a prestigious tournament with RTS last year. Additionally, Sony has hosted its own tournaments through its Tournaments platform.
As Sony expands into live service games, it seems that they are looking for more ways to bring players together for competitions.

A String of Recent Deals
Sony is indeed, on a roll. With a string of recent deals, Sony just keeps moving forward and evolving with the changing times.
Recently, it closed its acquisitions of Bungie and Haven Studios. In May 2021, it announced a major partnership with Discord.
Bungie is the developer of Destiny 2, and has been acquired by Sony for around $3.6 billion. However, despite being under the umbrella of Sony, it will still continue to publish and creatively develop its games independently.
In a blog post by Bungie CEO Pete Parsons, he said that future games in development won't be PlayStation exclusives.
Also last week, Sony announced that it has entered an agreement to acquire Haven Studios. Haven Studious was founded by Jade Raymond, a veteran game designer.
Although Sony originally announced its partnership a year ago, this time around, Sony is bringing the studio into the fold as one of its first-party PlayStation studios.
The first title from Haven will be a new AAA multiplayer game, according to a blog post by Raymond.
And finally, one of the latest partnerships is with Discord. However, details are slim and according to Sony, they are working hard to connect Discord with their social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Nobody knows whether there will be a full-fledged Discord app coming to PlayStation or a more limited integration yet, though.
Furthermore, Sony is investing in Discord as part of its Series H investment round as a minority investor.
It's true, Sony is on a roll, and it doesn't seem like stopping any time soon. All of its acquisitions are focused on optimizing a better user experience on the platform that may engage more users in the future.
