WhatsApp Status Update: Could We Share Voice Message Soon? Early Beta Says it's in the Works Already

Over the past years, WhatsApp has brought significant features to its users. Recently, several reports pointed out that the messaging platform might introduce a voice message as a status update.

Could this be the new voice note in development?

According to a report by Android Central, WhatsApp might have already hinted that it's now working on a voice note option. This particular feature could mean that we can see it as a status update in the future.

Reliable app report WABetaInfo highlights that WhatsApp users could soon use voice messages for future status updates. However, this would also mean that only a limited number of people can view your video, photo, and voice status on the platform.

The latest beta suggests that the company is currently working to bring it in the upcoming updates. As a reference, the beta version 2.22.16.3 has introduced voice clip recording on the app.

As of writing, the users could only write their status updates in the form of either pictures or clips. Of course, this is expected to be viewable to your contacts--something that Facebook Stories and IG Stories are using at the moment.

Based on the WABetaInfor's post, there's an icon of a microphone. Below it is a pencil icon and a camera icon where you can potentially upload your media.

Once you click the pencil icon, you can immediately post your voice message as a status update.

Voice Message on WhatsApp is Currently Not Shareable

At the time, you can still do voice message recording, but it's only viable within a chat. This means that there are no other ways to share this voice note with other people on your contact list. You cannot post this either as a status update.

If this feature is truly in the works as of press time, we presume that WhatsApp will add end-to-end encryption to it.

Since it's in a development phase, it's not yet available even to early beta testers, WABetaInfo says on its post. The Android phones will be the first recipients of this future feature.

Additionally, if it all goes according to plan, the voice message feature will be named "voice status" upon its official release.

Only specific people will be permitted to see your status update. The visibility of your voice status will depend entirely on you.

Meta has not yet disclosed any information about the upcoming WhatsApp feature.

Last week, Android Authority reported that a new rumor suggested that the "Who can see I'm online" feature might soon arrive on WhatsApp. This privacy feature will allow other users to view your availability.
